What are 360x360°images?
An iPIX 360x360° image is an all-round
view that you would see if you were actually standing where the camera
is standing. A 360x360° gives you areal image of anything,
in all directions, horizontal and vertical. So you can use your mouse (or
keyboard) to navigate the image just as if you were standing in the image
yourself.
On this website you will find many examples of
exciting interactive 360x360° images.
These images are really worth seeing, but there are a few
things you need to know first. Your PC must be able to display the images;
this means that it must be powerful enough (most modern PC's are quite
acceptable), must be running the correct level of operating system and
browser (once again most PC's are), and must be set up to display the
images - this may require some checking by you if images do not display
immediately.
The sections below give comprehensive information
on 360x360° images,
how to navigate images and problem identification.
Viewing 360x360° Images
iPIX images are viewed using Java class files or Quicktime. If
you do not have these on your computer you will be prompted to install
them.
How to Navigate 360x360° Images
Basic Navigation and Zoom
Simply place the mouse pointer over the image, hold down the left button
and move the mouse in the direction you want to move the image (up
or down, left and right). The further from the centre you move the
mouse, the faster the image will move.
Where there is a control panel you can also click on the icons to navigate.
With Java, you can also use the arrow keys and + - keys on your keyboard
if you prefer; for Quicktime use the shift and ctrl keys.
Selection of Images
Where 'thumbnails' (small flat images) or a menu of images is shown alongside
the first image or beneath it click on any thumbnail or menu selection
to view that image. If you believe that there should be thumbnails
and they do not appear, you should check you browser version.
E-Galleries
E-Galleries are navigated exactly as for individual images. You can also
use the Next and Last buttons to select other images. The Spin button
starts the image spinning and the Tour button will display the images
automatically one after another.
